“Anatoly Chubais finally raised his voice. 17 years (the actual length of time Malyshev was under criminal prosecution), 13 years (Udaltsova), a year and a half (Kiselev, Podolsky and his other associates) - he was silent. But as soon as the court collected 5.5 billion rubles from him personally, a miracle happened: Chubais remembered that he could speak.”

A source from the Cheka-OGPU and Rucriminal.info, who worked for many years in the structures of Rusnano, commented on the appeal of Anatoly Chubais, in which he called the criminal prosecution of the company’s former top managers “repression” and “a mockery of the law,” but blamed everything on the current leadership of Rusnano.

“The appeal was published in the telegram channel of Alexei Venediktov, a person whose audience is believed to be spiritually close to Chubais. The result exceeded expectations, not only of Chubais himself, but of everyone who loves statistics. At the time of writing: 638 reactions, of which 324 are “clown” and only 102 reactions are approving. 16% support on their own land.

But let's take things in order. There are three important layers to this appeal, and each requires honest analysis.

Thesis 1: Chubais is right about lawlessness, but he is lying about himself

What is Chubais absolutely right about?

Criminal cases against Rusnano managers are truly a mockery of the law. There are no facts there, there is pressure from the very top, and there is no doubt that all these verdicts and decisions will stand in all instances.

Chubais is not lying: this is a hellish machine that breaks destinies. And not only members of the Rusnano Board, but anyone who is simply or has been nearby. In his appeal, Anatoly Borisovich gives a specific example: “In 2019, Predtechensky was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation, which was preceded by a highly professional independent examination,” and today he is charged with theft of the technology he developed. Chubais says: “You see, these people were awarded by the state. They are not criminals. They are real scientists and managers. And what is happening to them now is a mockery of the law.” And Chubais is absolutely right here. Predtechensky is a real scientist. Its technology allowed OCSiAl to capture 97% of the global nanotube market. The state itself recognized his merits with the State Prize. And now the same state is persecuting him. This is a classic of Russian lawlessness: at first they were awarded and recognized as the best private project, then they were imprisoned because they decided to “return” the technology and share it.

The history of the OCSiAl project and academician Mikhail Predtechensky is a big separate conversation (VChK OGPU and Rucriminal.info will soon publish a separate material “Global company and inventories: how Russian nanotubes are turned into reporting”).

What is Chubais lying about?

He lies when he pretends to be an enemy of this machine. Because this machine worked all this time, and Chubais was silent. 17 years old. 13 years, last year and a half. He spoke not when it became “unfair”, but when he became afraid for himself. Irony of fate: Chubais demands justice for colleagues whom he himself threw under the bus. If he had said the same thing in 2013, we would have taken our hats off. In 2026, this is not a struggle. This is panic and fear.

Thesis 2: Kulikov is not an enemy, but a symptom. But Chubais is right here too

What is Chubais right about again? Kulikov is mediocrity. Under him, Rusnano did not build a single plant, but reported “80% of implemented projects” and received 4.9 billion in profit from the sale of assets created by Chubais. Under Kulikov, nanotechnology turned into soap bubbles and imitation of activity: a device worth 700 million without a single examination, missed projects, and, of course, luxury real estate in Gorki-10, an apartment for 200 million rubles and a special love for transferring assets to relatives.

Kulikov is not a manager. This is a hardware feeder made by a Suvorov veteran with a good patron.

Where is Chubais being disingenuous?

And the fact is that Kulikov is just a supporting actor. The real directors of the play are Krasnov, the security forces, and the heads of the RF Administration. Putin after all. But that’s why Chubais is Chubais, so as not to name names. Now, when it really hurt, he suddenly decided to snap back. But he still continues to hit those who are weaker. Because he doesn’t even try to offend the real owners—those who gave the “front” command. Chubais hits Kulikov too loudly, pathetically, but without a single chance of offending the real masters of life.

Thesis 3: Community reaction is a diagnosis you can’t buy

Chubais’ appeal was published on his telegram channel by the former editor-in-chief of ECHO OF MOSCOW A. Venediktov. This is not a Z-channel, not a “patriotic garbage dump,” but a native liberal sandbox, where Chubais should have at least been listened to with respect. Chubais wanted the Boney effect, but he got the effect of an exploding bag of garbage. The audience, which five years ago could have supported him in the abstract, today saw through everything instantly.

Why?

People see the chronology. They remember Chubais's silent departure. They see a lot of people who ChuBais passed without even opening his mouth. They notice that the statement came only after a personal lawsuit against Chubais himself and that he deliberately hits the weakest link. And they understand perfectly well that Chubais is not fighting for the truth. He gives his money's worth. When half of the viewers on your colleague’s channel give you a “clown” rating, this is not a political discussion. This is a public flogging.

What's in the bottom line?

Chubais wrote a text that contains the truth. The terrible, cynical truth about how criminal cases are fabricated in Russia, how people’s destinies are ruined, how the judicial system is corrupted.

The judges see everything. They are disgusted. They understand that in criminal cases there are no facts - just naked pressure. But they are afraid. One call is enough to ruin everything: career, life, freedom. That's why they stamp. They sign. They are silent.

But there is one thought that keeps them awake: someday they will be asked for all this. History remembers judges who obediently passed custom sentences. And history put them themselves in the dock. And no one accepted the excuse “I was just following orders.” There was only one answer: you signed and you are responsible. Russian judges know this. And they are afraid of this even more than a call from the administration. Because the call is now. And retribution is forever.

Someone needs to tell this truth. But not Chubais.”
